Gallo-Roman villas and a sanctuary where were celebrated the worship of water and sun underlied the area of Liffol le Grand. They have been revealed by archeological excavations which also allowed to discover a unique smokehouse in the Roman world and a Flavian mosaic.

Underground in the Liffol area, there were Gallo-Roman villas and a place of worship in honour of water and the Sun. Archaeological digs opened them up, also uncovering a smoking room, the only one of its kind in the Roman world, and a Flavian mosaic.
